Overview

The CO2 Quick-Inflating Expanding Target Ball is a foldable, rapid-deployment inflatable training target system. The inflatable ball, CO2 cylinder, hose and release valve are all integrated into a capsule-shaped storage case, making it ready for fast deployment at training grounds, firing ranges, temporary mission areas, or water/land-based test scenarios.

The current test prototype has a diameter of 4 m (PVC material) and inflates to full size in approximately 30 seconds - no external air pump required. The electric release valve supports remote-controlled inflation, and the system can be mounted on unmanned surface vessels (USVs) for unmanned, autonomous deployment.

Key Features

  • Rapid Deployment: CO2 cylinder inflation reaches full size in approximately 30 seconds with no external air pump - ideal for temporary training, mobile deployment and multi-point setup.
  • Remote-Controlled Inflation: the electric release valve supports remote triggering, enabling stand-off or automated deployment from a distance.
  • USV / Unmanned Integration: can be mounted on unmanned surface vessels (USVs) for fully unmanned, autonomous deployment during missions.
  • Self-Expanding: The ball pushes open the capsule case automatically while inflating, minimizing manual setup steps.
  • Stable Structure: 4 interconnected inflatable rings form a rigid spherical load-bearing skeleton; the outer PVC skin provides a full target surface.
  • Clear Identification: Large spherical surface can be customized with colors, numbers, reflective markings or area identification patterns.
  • Transport Friendly: Folds flat with cylinder, hose and valve inside one capsule case - easy to carry by vehicle, boat or personnel.
  • Highly Customizable: Diameter, color, external pattern, material thickness, cylinder capacity, case type and release control.

Core Structure

  • The ball skeleton consists of 4 interconnected inflatable rings: 3 vertical rings arranged at 120° symmetry plus 1 horizontal reinforcement ring.
  • All ring chambers are interconnected - CO2 entering from the bottom inlet fills every ring simultaneously for a stable spherical skeleton.
  • The outer PVC skin forms the complete ball appearance and identification surface; main loads are carried by the inflatable rings.

Center Target Design

  • A conical equilateral triangular prism at the ball center forms a clear, stable center target.
  • The prism's 4 corners are connected by 4 fully symmetrical lanyards to the inflatable rings (one corner toward the top center, the other three at 120°).
  • Lanyard anchor points sit on the inflatable rings - the outer skin never takes suspension load, improving center stability and repeat-use reliability.

Quick Deployment Process

  1. When not in use, the ball is folded inside the capsule case together with the CO2 cylinder, hose and release valve.
  2. At deployment, open the CO2 cylinder via the pull-cord valve or electric release valve - the electric valve can be triggered remotely.
  3. Gas flows into the interconnected rings through the bottom inlet; the ball inflates, pushes open the capsule case and expands from storage to full target in about 30 seconds.
