Choosing a deployment method is part of defining a self-righting system configuration. The decision should be based on the vessel's operating profile, crew arrangements and the final installation design, rather than on a generic rule.
Start with the operating scenario
Describe whether the vessel is normally crewed, remotely operated or attended only at launch and recovery. Include the intended operating area, likely weather exposure and whether a recovery response can be arranged quickly after an incident.
Review manual operation requirements
A manual arrangement needs a clearly defined operating procedure and accessible controls for the people responsible for the vessel. The final design should consider control location, activation steps, inspection access and how the procedure fits the vessel's safety plan.
Review automatic operation requirements
An automatic arrangement needs project-specific engineering review of the trigger concept, system interfaces, maintenance access and the vessel's normal operating modes. It should be documented with the rest of the installation and operating information for that particular vessel.
Prepare the details for configuration review
Provide vessel type, overall length, fully loaded weight, general arrangement, stern photos and the preferred operating concept. This information helps define the questions that must be resolved before a configuration is proposed.
